Meriwether Lewis

After returning Lewis to the Eastern coast, he was appointed by Tomas Jefferson as the first Governor of the upper Louisiana territory, yet he would not prosper there. Many people who wanted to take advantage of the territory would pressure him, causing him to give into drinking cherry wine which only made his condition worse.

Eventually he found was dead, having been shot in the back of the head and central torso with the incident being ruled a suicide. The entire Corps of Discovery would turn out for the wake, with Clarck talking about their friendship. It would take 7 years for it to be discovered that the 2nd Governor of the territory had killed Lewis in order to attain his position. Later the Governor  would be killed in the same manner as the first, but this time by Hononegah Indians with whom Clark was known to keep good relations.
