Lime-alike

While Limes and other Citrus fruits are useful, the word existed long before its discovery. So, to spark some fruitful conversations here are a few examples.

It is a stone cold fact that there are rock formations of Limestone all over the world. The reason they’re called this however is when burnt what remains is a compound called lime. This compound is commonly used to engineer dirt to provide permanent structural support to construction projects.

Most people want their chance in the Limelight but the term refers to a type of stage light which contains a filament made from Lime to produce a brighter light, and has since entered into popular culture.

Lastly, Rome was famous for its vast vast territory, but the downside of conquest is it tends to get people upset. Thus the first line of defense for Rome were Limes: long stretches of wall and roads built on the edge of the frontiers with the most famous being Hadrian’s wall in Britain. I guess when life gives you enemies you make limes.
