The Magyar Fallout

The Magyar invasions would forever change the course of history.  The various alliances they brought together just to oppose them would be the start of several cultural identities such as Spain, France, Germany, and Austria. New weapons and tactics had to be invented and several of the Key figures are still remembered today, such as the Carol of “Good King Wenceslas”, while the destabilization they caused in the Middle east would set the stage for the Crusades.

Yet most striking of all is the fact the Magyar were given an option for peace by Otto where if they all got baptized at once he would spare them. So they all jumped into the Danube River on May 7th, 960. While the world today knows them as Hungarians they still refer to themselves as Magyar, and in a funny turn of events the Catholic Church took until 1995 to finally make an official peace with their descendants.Thanks for reading and please have a wonderful day!
