Fun Fact #296

“The Enchantress of Numbers”

In 1834 Charles Babbage designed the Analytical Engine which was a device made out of wood and rope designed to assist in number computations (Think: wooden Calculator). When Ada Lovelace heard about this though she became enthralled and learned all she could about the machine. She then wrote the first Math Function ever to be designed for a computer making her the First computer programmer, and so impressing Babbage that he nicknamed her “The Enchantress of Numbers”.
