#666 Geometria

 Fun Fact #666

An Orchard of Trouble (Geometria)

When it comes to finding cool facts, one rabbit hole you can easily get lost in is the subject of “Geometria” or systems where your Lettering system is used as your numbering system. Surprisingly this hasn't been that uncommon in history but the most famous use is the case in the Bible where 666 is used as the sign of the beast. (Interestingly however that's not where 666 comes from, but rather the fact that  6 is associated with Man and all their flaws in the Bible, and sets of 3 means to be completely given to. Thus the number 666 would mean being completely given over to The Flaws of Man that is to say Sin.)

Yet Geometria goes beyond just old numeral systems. Instead it is still used by many modern governments and groups to hide messages in times of need (famously the Jews used this to get word out about Concentration camps in WW2). Indeed some places even go so far as to create multiple different Geometria Systems so as to make decryption even harder.

For instance Hebrew has 4 known Geometria Translations: Aleph-Tav, Milui, Atbash,  and Mispar-Katan (if you’re a fan of Warhammer 40k this is where the word “Katan” comes from). Each of these targets a different area specifically, and funnily enough there are 4 different ways to interpret each of these translations: Pashto (plain), Remez (Hinted), Derush (exposition), and sod (esoteric). Together these interpretations make the acronym PaRDeS which translates to “The Orchard”.   Sadly it is advised against looking too deeply into “The Orchard” as unless you have a reason to go there, as unless you’re trying to follow Biblical themes in the bible (EX: 40 being a time of testing) or purposefully trying to hide messages there really is no need to use it. The most common outcome of groups trying to use it at scale in history has been cults who focus on mathematics (oddly this includes the Cult of Pythagoras which is a fun fact for another day).

Below you will find a guide to The Aleph-Tav system. As always thanks for reading and please have a wonderful day!

PS: I'm sorry I can’t help it as curiosity killed the cat. Woodward Translated to Hebrew is וודוורד which becomes  4-200-6-6-4-6-6 or 232 which translates to the Hebrew word “Belt” (Ezor) or “Girdle”. In The Talmuidic tradition Ezor is sometimes used in the meaning “To Strengthen or support another”. Now what does this mean? I have no idea but just thought it was interesting and silly.

In any case, thanks for reading and please have a wonderful day!
