#661 Acrophobia

 Fun Fact #661

AcroPhobia

Many people hold a fear of heights and that's understandable since even short heights can be deadly (40% of Fall deaths in the US are from a height of 15ft or shorter). Yet one of the most famous people to survive a fall from height never developed this fear (Acrophobia). . .

On January 26th, 1972, Vesna Vulović was a flight attendant on The (now) Serbian JAT Flight 367 which had its passenger compartment explode –thought today to be a briefcase bomb by Croatian Nationalists, however this has never been proven. For 27 of the people on board this resulted in a fatal crash. Vesna however was pinned by a lunch trolley to the rear of the aircraft (fuselage) which then proceeded to break away from the rest of the craft just shortly before impacting a thick wood and snow layer. After the crash a local named Bruno Honke (former WW2 Medic) discovered her in the wreck and kept her alive while awaiting rescuers.

In the end Vesna wound up being the only survivor. Despite a fractured skull, 3 fractured vertebrae, a broken pelvis, multiple broken ribs, Broken legs (both), a Concussion and a 27-day Coma She made a full recovery and didn't even recall the event. However she did remember everyone acting strangely before the event (look it up its odd but long). Despite wishing to return to work as a flight attendant following the incident, JAT wound up moving her to a desk position. From there she continued her life with 2 other notable events happening in her life before her death in 2016:
A: She helped organize the movement which led to Serbia joining The European Union in 2009

B : Helping her Nephew Aleska VuloVic start his youtube channel. After her death he became one of Australia’s biggest youtubers Thanks to his work on Television with programs such as Satirical News
