Destroyed Heritage
When it comes to damaged landmarks –also referred to as “Destroyed Heritage'' there are many ways to group them together, with my personal favorite being those people attribute Napoleon with destroying. Except for one small issue: Napoleon loved art and took great effort not to damage the local art. However his military leaders had little care often melting down or selling off priceless art to pay military wages
After 16 years of war, most of Europe was upset at the tiny tyrant seeking war reparations. In an effort to increase the reparations amount they blamed much of their destroyed heritage on Napoleon even in places he never invaded. Yet some good did come from this as all this caused much of the European populace to seek ways to preserve art and culture creating many of the oldest Museums today. The Full list of Napoleonic Destroyed Heritage can be found by looking up “Napoleonic Looting” on Unesco’s website.
