Fun Fact #366

Jerusalem

In the rugged and dangerous terrain of the Judean Hill country, Jerusalem was built upon two parallel ridges which acted as walls to the east and west.  Originally settled as far back as 5,000BC, Jerusalem started life known as Yerushalem meaning “Foundation Stone of the Shalem” in reference to it being thought that God (whom they referred to as Shalem) laid the foundations of the world there.  Over time the name would change to modern Jerusalem meaning “City of peace” though it has seen its share of war with 52 battles and was even destroyed twice!

Today Jerusalem is regarded one of the Holiest places on Earth, and is the current capital of the Nation of Israel. Its mentioned in the Bible 806 times in the Bible as and is well worth learning more about as it is the center for the Jewish faith form most of Human History.
