Fun Fact #352 Hydra Havoc
Fun Fact #352
Hydra Havoc
Vines can be beautiful when properly kept, even producing highly sought berries, but what happens when things get out of control? In short you can get one monstrous situation.
Unkempt vines can outgrow other plants for light, naturally produce oil which can cause rashes and compete for nutrients in the soil, killing gass, trees and most plants with relative ease. To make matters worse they often regrow two new shoots in a process called endo-reproduction. This process controls how big cells can get, so cells almost double in size allowing them to produce proteins faster, and boosts vine growth temporarily.
Thankfully there is a weakness you can exploit here, as most of that mass comes from water and so fire can dry them out preventing Endo-Reproduction. This is why the Legend of Hercules’s 2nd labor is about the Hydra, becoming a warning of how someone’s greed can spell the doom of their property and crops.
