Arnulf the Bad
In 898 one of the former Carloginian duked Arnulf the Bad (also referred to as Arnulf the Evil) saw an opportunity with the Magyars and invited them to invade his southern neighbor King Berengar I of Northern Italy. They succeeded in removing Beregar who would escape into temporary exile, forming the basis of a union between the Magyars and Arnulf for a time. In 905 Beregar formed an Amicita with the Magyars allowing him to return to power and preventing his kingdom from being invaded for 15 years when he would start a war with them.
De Amicitia is Latin for “On Friendship '' and is still used in eastern European law to this day as Hungry just made an Amicita with Poland marking March 23rd as National Polish Friendship day. Amicitia bear no explicit obligations but are marked by two groups (people, businesses, or countries) agreeing to look for opportunities to assist the other in any way they can and offer advice when asked for. The Italians did this by providing siege tactics and farming techniques with the Magyar, and modern Poland and Hungry do it by sharing education, among other things.
