The Khazars

In the midst of the failing Göktürk Khanate in 700A.D. a new power began to rise. The Göktürks had been in the middle of a succession crisis for 50 years and while progress towards a new Khan (Nomad King) had been made the country was still split between the *believed* descendants of Magor, and those of Hunor. Yet when the Chinese Tang Dynasty attacked, the country finally broke, only for one tribe –The Khazars (A Hunor tribe) to start winning and gather the support of the other 108 tribes. Together they repelled the Tang and established the Khazar Khanate, which became known for a time as one of the great four eastern nations as recorded in the book The Fârsnâma. 

However 100 years later the Khazars would begin to drive out the other groups within their territory such as the Avars, and the Bulgars (fathers of the Bulgarian culture).
