Fun Fact #324 The Morris Worm

 Fun Fact #324

The Morris Worm

The early bird catches the worm they say, but in 1988 MIT caught the worm that no one wanted. Most likely the earliest form of malware, a computer worm spreads by exploiting a weakness in computer security and then replicating before being sent through a communication method (Email, instant messages, etc.). Thankfully though, this worm was released by accident by a Cornell University student who was just trying to design a prank to use on MIT. Still within a day it had spread to over 6,000 and acted as the wake up call to create the field of I.T. Security.
