Fun Fact #320 The Haven

 Fun Fact #320

The Haven

In 1943 the US was in need of safe Havens to treat the wounded in the various theaters of WW2 and they took the C-4 cargo ship design and modified it for use as a hospital ship. The class would be named after the need they addressed “The Haven” and the 6 ships would be some of the first air conditioned Hospital Ships able to serve up to 802 patients at a time. These ships would continue to serve until the end of the Vietnam War before being decommissioned and scrapped (except for The Benevolence which sunk). Then in an attempt to honor the class and those who sacrificed their lives upon them, the TV show “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” had 3 episodes centered around preventing the destruction of a series of Medical stations called “The Havens”.
