 Fun Fact #317

Jack of all

Do you remember playing with jacks as a kid? They’re based upon the civil war variant of an actual weapon called The Caltrop which would make use of 4-6 sharpened spikes arranged in a way so one was always facing up. They would be spread on a battlefield to harm opposing troops, horses, camels and wheels. Then in the 1930s they would be upsized to create Anti Tank Jacks also known as Steel Hedgehogs to reduce the effectiveness of armor in a combat setting. However both large and small prove to be more of an annoyance than a weapon if left undefended as it can be easily moved aside or cut apart. They are still widely used today and are a central part of Luxembourg's coat of arms.
