Fun Fact #311

 Fun Fact # 311

Squeaks and Screams

Have you ever been walking along and heard what sounded to be a distressed dog’s squeaky toy and no dog was to be found? Then chances are you’ve heard a feeding Red-Shouldered Hawk (don't worry they sound much cooler in flight commonly making a sort of Kee-ah call).

These birds of prey are often found near forests and swampy areas making flooded river banks a good place to spot them. You are not likely to find them flying however, as they prefer Perch Hunting. Perch Hunting is where the bird goes to sit atop one of the tallest places around and watches for prey before swooping down to catch them. Where I've seen these guys most frequently is along the trail in Brown Park after it's been flooded.
